Hey Everybody!!
Elder Oliver Here reporting on how my first week in Mexico has been.
So
we all got off the plane a week ago and we really had no idea what was
going on... haha we had to fill out papers and all sorts of stuff to get
through customs. It was crazy. But then we got out and were met by the
mission president. President Call. He is a good man and he was very
friendly and nice. Then we got into the cars with all of our luggage.
yes...I have all my luggage. haha and we left for the mission home.
Mexico city is very different then I had imagined. It is really green
here and there are mountains and all sorts of things. It is pretty from a
lot of areas. Ya so the first day was interesting. just to see the city
and how big it was. It was awesome.
So the food here is good!!!!!!!!!! I like it. there are a couple of
things I was like....ew. haha but for the most part it is delicious!
there are a ton of people and cars. But that was expected. There are
definitely some interesting smells going on here... haha. oh and we dont
have hot water...haha. so I have to take a cold shower every morning it
is horrible hah. I am in the shower for literally 30 seconds haha. I
just get in get out. haha. But I really do enjoy everything that is
going on here. I really hope I can start understanding the language a
little better. But I know it will get better with time. So I am not too
worried about it.
My second day I met my new companion Elder Maldonado. he is
awesome!! he is from the yucatan and he speaks English really really
well. So he can help me when I am struggling with my spanish and help me
know what to say because he is a little familiar with that. So I am
grateful for him and helping me out with that.
So now to the good stuff. We had two baptisms yesterday. Their
names were Alicia and Fernando. Alicia is a 40 year old single mom and
Fernando is her son who is 10. They are soooooo awesome!! They were the
first people that I taught in Mexico. They were so nice and they really
are so funny even though I dont understand much of what they are saying.
hah. They are so awesome and their Baptism was one of the most special
experiences I have ever had. They came in with their whites on and they
looked like angels...not even joking. And then we went out and took
some pictures after the speakers gave their little talks. Then Alicia
and then Fernando were baptized by brother batman. I dont know his real
name but he loves batman so that is why everyone calls him that haha.
But he is so nice too. BUt then when they came in after getting changed.
They looked so happy. Alicia told me before she was baptized she was a
little nervous. But when I saw her after all that nervousness was gone
she knew that she had done the right thing. It was so awesome. It really
is hard for me to describe how I felt but you could just feel the love
that was at that service. From the members and alicia and fernando and
from our Heavenly Father. IT was so awesome. I just sat there and tried
to soak in what was happening. That really was an amazing. I will never
forget that first baptism in Mexico. Well that is how everything is
going here. It has been an incredible week!
I love all of you so much and I want to say congratulations to
my sister for graduating from the U that is what I am talking about!!!
